Basically what Howard Rheingold is trying to say in that article is that to have good conversations through an online way there must be a couple things that need to be right. One good one is the host. Without the host there would be no conversation in the first place. Another good one is the discussions. The discussions need to be good in order to get something from it, entertain the other person, and keep it going to better things.
