The central message of the book would be that dont let memories kill you. Thats what my group came up with. By this they probably meant that gatsby shouldnt have let his emotions get to his head about daisy. Daisy was driving gatsby crazy. That led to him having memories about them and i guess they were bad because daisy was with tom now and a wasnt intrested in gatsby no more.
